Can
we gain promotion?

Let's not get too carried away though because we have a young squad and at the start of Paul Hart's reign as manager he told us not to expect too much this season. But I can't help feel that we could be on the verge of promotion. Some of the performances I have seen this season only makes my optimism grow and I believe that we are a lot stronger than we were last season when we very nearly grabbed a play-off spot.
Although many supporters feel the squad maybe too young to go up, you only have to look at the recent performances of some of the older players in the squad. Players like Riccy Scimeca, Jim Brennan and Matthieu Louis-Jean have been excellent so far this season and it proves that Forest have strength in depth, something that we maybe lacked last season. There are a number of other players that could come into the team and do a very good job but at the moment Paul Hart doesn't need to change any of the current first team players because they are playing so well.
Another thing that Forest have got this season that they lacked last year is goals from their strikers. All four of our front men have scored goals this season when they have got their chance. Stern John is the leading goal scorer with 6 goals in the league. His six goals included his first hatrick against Millwall and he is starting to show signs of becoming Forest's main threat in attack. I was very pleased on Tuesday night when David Johnson notched his first league goal this season in our 2-1 win at Watford. DJ has found it hard this season after a number of difficult injuries in the summer but this goal will kick start his season and hopefully he will find the form that he produced at Ipswich. Super Marlon and Jack Lester also have a major role to play this season if Forest are to challenge for promotion. Marlon started the season on fire but he has picked up an injury, which has halted his progress, and Jack Lester has scored some important goals this season especially his two against Stockport.
To add to the strikers scoring goals, we also have one of the best defences in the league, if not the best. We have only conceded 13 goals in 15 games and during those 15 games we have kept 7 clean sheets. Darren Ward has been fantastic all season and has kept Forest in games at certain stages. Jon Olav Hjelde has been a rock in the heart of defence alongside Riccy Scimeca and the two fullbacks, Jim Brennan and Matthieu Louis-Jean, have been brilliant when defending and they've be great going forward. Scimeca has been so good over the last few games Chris Doig hasn't been able to get his place back in the squad and this competition for places can only be good.
So taking all this into account I believe Forest have a great chance of securing at least a play-off place this season if they continue to perform the way they have been doing. If DJ and Stern John find there form then who knows what Paul Hart's team can achieve. But let's not get to carried away because this is a learning curve for the younger players.
Sunday's match against Man City also proved that we are capable of competing against the best teams in this league. I thought Forest deserved to win the match but a point against City is still a very good result. On another occasion we would have beaten them by two goals but it wasn't to be. Darren Ward shouldn't be too down about the mistake he made on Sunday night. He has made some vital saves and I know this won't affect his confidence because he has been playing superbly. It was great to see Psycho back at the City Ground. The atmosphere was fantastic for his return and it is a game I won't forget. Psycho is a hero to all Forest fans and he got the reception he deserved.
During the next two weeks Forest face another difficult period. We face three tough games, two of them are against teams struggling at the bottom of the table. We play Sheffield Wednesday in midweek which should be an easy three points for the Reds but there isn't such a thing in this division. Wednesday have just lost their manager and we all know how teams play when they are trying to impress their new coach. I can't wait for this game because I know a lot of Wednesday fans and I have a feeling we are going to hammer them. After this, we then face a tricky trip the WBA who will be promotion rivals without a doubt. I just hope we can get a better result then last season!
And finally we face Walsall away which again should be another three points to the Trickys. Walsall are struggling after gaining promotion from Division Two last season and Forest will surely be too hot to handle for them.
I will be back in two weeks time, until then keep the Red flag flying high.
