Ade's season thoughts

Speaking almost entirely viewing from the armchair, I cannot deduce anything other than a successful season for Forest. It all ended in tears, for Des, Johnno and I at least, but hell, we did ourselves proud all season long.

The emergence of Mickey D has to be a major plus, add to that the vast improvement of the likes of Louis-Jean, Brennan, DJ, Reider and Marlon and you have a great building block for next season. The only player lost on the transfer market was David Prutton. We missed his bite in midfield, but £2.5 million seems a pretty fair price considering he was running out of contract time.

The highlight has to be the lambs to the slaughter. After all that’s been said between us and the bestiality side of the East Midlands, it was refreshing to put the record straight. Which really followed the pattern of the season; at home we really knew where the onion bag was.

Last season we could not hit a donkey’s backside with a banjo, so having two strikers over twenty goals in a season made for a nice change, jolly good. Harty’s diamond formation has come up trumps, the service to the front men often greatly improved - though there is still that lack of goals from midfield.

Over the summer it is essential that we hold onto our prize youngsters. Losing Dawson for anything less than a King’s ransom would be bad news. At the risk of fantasising, some summer deals into the club might not be a bad idea; if Forest strengthen then we will be in good position for next season.

I realise that this is a review, but jumping the gun on everyone else, I predict that Forest will maintain a position in the play-off lottery next year. Whether our numbers come up is simply a matter of time.

Onwards and upwards lads!
