LTLF Awards 2003
Player of the Season: David Johnson
Whats odd on DJ
taking not only the Player of the Season award, but also the
division's golden boot, this time last year? Many think Johnson's
return to form of old after one and half seasons of
dissapointment was down to his new, Samson-style hairstyle which
seemed to bring him new super powers. But despite many different
barnets, the goals kept coming - 29 in total this season.
Johnson topped the poll with 46% of votes. Youngsters Andy Reid
and Michael Dawson followed him with around 15% each, with Marlon
Harewood and Matthieu Louis-Jean also deserving mentions.
However, with his form this season, there was only going to be
one winner. Long may it continue.
Young Player of the Season: Michael Dawson
We all (or at
least 72% of us) agree, Dawson is better than Rio.
Forest's young star defender was the clear and obvious winner in
this category. It's been an incredible first season so the lad
who, not content with winning numerous pludits for his mature
performances, also got the chance to train with the England squad
in November.
This award is usually hotly contested , as you would expect with
so many talented youngsters at the club, but this year only Andy
Reid could compete with Dawson's dominance, finishing as
runner-up on 18% of votes.
Most Improved Player: Marlon Harewood
It is ironic that
this is the second time Marlon Harewood has won Most Improved
Player, but after doubling his goal tally from the previous
season and quadrupling his transfer value, it would be hard to
deny him a second award.
Marlon (53%) beat off competition from Andy Reid (who finishes
runner-up in the third category in a row) with 32% and David
Johnson who got 15%.
Best Match: Forest 3 Derby 0 (19/03/03)
The winner of the
foregone conclusion award goes to our memorable victory over the
sheepish ones of Derbyshire back in May. Darren Huckerby and
Marlon Harewood (2) provided the goals as we obliterated the
shaggers in front of a packed house.
This game was a clear highlight of the season and attracted 60%
of the votes. The only other match that came close was our
dramatic seven-goal thriller against Ipswich Town in April, which
got 18% of the votes.
Twat of the Season: Mark Cowburn
Always a popular
and hotly contested category, and this year was no exception.
John Gregory (29%) came close, although one might argue that
having done such a good job of f**king up Derby this season,
Gregory should be commended for his efforts, not slated.
However, the ultimate twat of this seaon's proceedings was Mark
Cowburn (34%), the utterly incompentant referee of Forest's match
at home to Reading. Mr Cowburn gave one of the worst refereeing
performances ever in proffesional football, sending Jack Lester
off for two nothing tackles and ruining a perfectly good game of
football by blowing his whistle every two minutes. He then had
the face to defend his performance and report Paul Hart for
abusive language at the end of the game. A twat of the highest
order and thoroughly deserving of this award.
LTLF Writers Award: Alex Campbell
More brown paper bags stuffed with cash than golden envelopes for this award, as once again a stewards inquiry was called for. Thankfully, Mr Ingram's (21%) shameless atempts to fix the vote was foiled by match reporter Alex Campbell who got 28% of the votes for his efforts this season. TrickyMatt also gave a good showing with 17%.
