I don’t cry on the outside anymore…

So once again we stand at a cross-roads. Was the weekend’s win a turning point or just yet another false dawn? I suppose only time will tell, but now we have to start to put a run together or the New Year will come and we will be languishing in the lower half of the division, too far away to mount a serious challenge and facing another year playing Doncaster, Southend, etc. You get my point.
I haven’t been able to get to a game for about a month now and have been confined to Saturday afternoon in front of Soccer Saturday. On Saturday there was one point where it got extremely depressing – Doncaster led Scunthorpe 2-1 and I thought nothing of it, until I realised Scunthorpe have beaten us and that is in our division!
And if that was not enough, the further reality that we play Woking in the LDV Vans Trophy is a horrible thought. We have fallen a long way. I am only 17, but even I can remember the days when we graced the Premiership. I think if we had lost yesterday we would be starting to panic. We would have been joint bottom with MK Dons (remember them?). But it’s amazing what a win can do.
I am not saying everything in the garden is rosy, because it is not. Far from it – some of Gary Megson’s decisions defy belief. You make Gareth Taylor captain, then try to offload him. You go out and buy a striker (who can’t even get in the Tranmere side) and don’t play him. We have ample strikers. And a massive well done to Jack Lester. He came back at the weekend and by all accounts had a fantastic game.
But 5-4-1 at home to Brentford? Excuse me aren’t we supposed to have the players to beat these sides? Away from home maybe, but not in front of our own fans. And why did he refuse to do the after game press conference? He thought the walk past the Forest fans at Barnsley was bad; he needs to stop and think about us. We go to work/school every week with the thought of the jibes about the fact we’ve just lost to somebody we should only be playing in the FA Cup. We suffer the abuse, Megson you should too.
This is an important fortnight for Forest. If (and it’s a major If) we come out and beat Bristol City on Tuesday, get something from Swansea, and win at home to Blackpool and Tranmere, we will be right back in the hunt. If we don’t, I think Megson may be packing up his desk. It’s not time to panic, but I think a few of us are beginning to twitch.
Next Saturday we go to Swansea. It will be my first game for about a month. And if you see/hear someone with a South Walian accent, it will probably be me, seeing as I live only about 20 miles away. So don’t automatically think I’m a Swansea fan; I hate the Jacks and hope we stuff them. I do remember the Premiership days and I remember the abuse I had to endure from so-called fans when we lost to United, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc. But on a personal level, taking abuse from Swansea fans will probably be the worst. To be a Forest fan you have to have skin as thick as concrete, and I don’t cry on the outside anymore, but I may have one inside if we lose next Saturday.
