Forest Fashion

Featuring more polyester than Bobby Robson's wig and less style and taste than Brian Clough's green jumper, this is the history of the humble Forest shirt.

1940s/50s
1940s/50s - The green badge was known as 'The Forester' and was used after the Second World War for about 10 years.

1959
1959 - This was the shirt worn by Forest in the 1959 FA Cup win over Luton Town.

1960s/70s
1960s/70s - This style of shirt, featuring the city's coat of arms, was used for most of the 60s and the early 70s before being replaced by the familiar 'Tricky Tree' of today in 1973 after a competition was launched for fans to design the new logo.

- All of the above shirts can be purchased from Toffs retro shirts.

1970s
1970s - This kit, modelled here by Garry Birtles, was worn for much of Forest's glorious period under Brian Clough in the late 70s. It was in this kit that Forest won the League Championship and the European Cup.

1980s
1980s - The eighties was the era of shirt sponsorships and Forest were first sponsored by Wrangler, before Panasonic, Skol, Home Ales and later Shipstones. Here, Franz Carr can be seen wearing the home shirt of 1989. Forest's kits were now manufactured by Umbro.

Early '90s
Early '90s - Forest hero Neil Webb is pictured here wearing a nice pin-stripe affair from the 94/95 season.

Mid '90s
Mid '90s - Nigel Clough wearing the Forest shirt of the 96/97 season.

Late '90s
Late '90s - Steve Stone in the Premiership shirt of 98/99 featuring new sponsors Pinnacle Insurance. As you can see, the trend in football shirts had turned from modern designs to retro-styles.

Current shirt
20002/03 - David Prutton is seen here modeling the home shirt for the 2002/03 season. This shirt used the traditional Forest colours of red and white and reflected the current trend for V-neck collars.
