Some 'interesting' facts about the Stoke match

Forest's six-nil win over Stoke City was significant for a number of reasons. Not only does it represent a real milestone in the Reds' chase for promotion this season - not to mention establishing Marlon Harewood as a prolific goal-scorer - it brought up a number of facts, figures and pieces of trivia that you are sure to find... interesting!

* The six-nil scoreline is Forest's biggest win since they demolished Doncaster Rovers 8-0 in a League Cup First Round tie in 1997. Hjelde (2), Thomas, Van Hooijdonk (2), Saunders (2) and Allen scored in the game. The biggest league win before that was the famous 7-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in 1995. *

* However, the Reds still had a long way to go if they wanted to secure the record for biggest ever league win, which currently stands at a 12-0 thrashing of Leicester Fosse way back in 1909. Forest have got an even bigger win in the FA Cup though, putting 14 goals past Clapton with no return in 1891. *

* Marlon Harewood also came close to breaking a scoring record. One more goal would have seen him equalise Alex (not the snooker player) Higgins' record of five goals in a match, which was set during that 14-0 win over Clapton in 1891. The oddly-named Tinsley Lindley got four in the same match, but many other Forest players have scored four goals in a match over the years, including Peter Withe, Ian Storey-Moore and Lee Chapman. *

* This is not the first time Forest have thrashed Stoke City. The Reds put five past Stoke at the City Ground in 1980, with Garry Birtles and Ian Wallace getting two, and John Robertson converting a penalty. In 1957, Forest won 4-0, again at the City Ground and another time before that in 1896. *

* Stoke City have beaten Forest by a scoreline of 6-0 before, in 1930 at the Victoria Ground. However, today's win was a first for Forest between the two teams. *

* As well as being the biggest win of Paul Hart's reign as manager, this is the first time that Forest have won three games in a row under the current boss. Hart's predecessor David Platt managed to win five games on the trot during the 2000/01 season. Forest's record for most league wins in a row is seven, achieved during both the 1892/93 and 1920/21 seasons. *

* Forest's current points total of 54 is the same number that they won last year, although Forest have 14 league games left to play this season. They have also scored more than last season, currently with 55 beating last season's 50. *

* If Forest continue on the form of this season (collecting an average of around 1.7 points per game) they will finish the season with a points total of roughly 78 points. The same points total last year would have seen Forest finish in fourth place, above Millwall. However, the average points for the team at the top of the league (Portsmouth with 2.1 points per game) is slightly below the average achieved by last year's league champions, Man City (at 2.2 points per game). *

* Marlon Harewood's four goals in the first half, and David Johnson's header in the second, now mean the duo have a combined goals tally of 39. If, between them, they continue at the same rate of scoring (1.2 goals a game) they will finish the season with a total of 56 goals, leaving them slightly behind the strike-rate achieved by Forest' championship-winning pair of Pierre Van Hooijdonk and Kevin Campbell who scored a combined total of 57 goals over the 1997/98 season. *
