Nottingham Forest 0 Cardiff City 1

As the autumn wind howled and the cold rain punished the eager crowds, we battled our way through the elements from our regular watering hole amidst the swelling supporters hoping for an end to the frustrating recent run of disappointing results.

A relative new team, including Camp, Lynch, Fletcher, Garner and Anderson, ran out onto the grass to a welcoming home applause as the first ball was kicked Trentwards and high expectation was met with an attacking and fiery Forest and an early shot on goal.

Early chances reigned down and yet we were unable to capitalise and establish a primitive lead. Lewis and Cohen linked up well and we looked unstoppable and were denied a lead on a number of occasions as we battled on creating what can only be described as an awe inspiring start to the game.

We continued to dominate strongly throughout the first 45 minutes and luck appeared to be on our side when the ball fell to Boothroyd and yet all he could do from 10 yards out with a 1-2-1 opportunity was to fire into Camp’s safe hands.

Fighting for a goal prior to the whistle, we once again narrowly missed out from a wide shot from McCleary.

Great performances from all, with special mention to McGugan, Anderson, Garner and Perch playing his rightful position who never failed to inspire the game and the crowds with the assurance that a Forest goal must surely be imminent.

The second half, saw the introduction of Number 9, Nathan Tyson, and started much as the first ended. Until, that is, in a frustrating repetition of our game v. Ipswich, a soft penalty was awarded to Cardiff which was fired directly and straight down the middle by McCormack into the back of the net. Over 2000 travelling noisy Welshmen erupted into song as the Forest contingent could only respond weakly in reply.

Immediately thereafter, and painfully predictably, our heads dropped as the Cardiff confidence moved into overdrive and they pushed forward as we were left begging for answers.

Garner was applauded from the pitch as Earnshaw was subbed in pushing to an attacking 4-4-2. Despite opportunity, that cutting edge and final finish was sadly missing and we desperately fought on into injury time to find the equaliser.

As the closing minutes were greeted by the emptying stands a final corner from the far end just couldn’t fall right to save us from despair. Another failure to secure three points sees our torrid tally top 10 games without a win which will invariably see the noose tighten around Colin Calderwood’s neck.

Results aside, today was representative of a winning performance from a deserved winning team and it can surely only be a matter of time before this is reflected in our League position. Surely?
