Mcsheffrey Saga Continues..
In another bizzare turn of affairs, Gary Mcsheffrey is apparently either back with or never left the Nottingham Forest ranks. Birmingham City manager Alex Mccleish, whilst being interviewed for the BCFC official website explained all.
Apparently because Mcsheffrey is on a loan deal until the end of the season, Birmingham had installed a 28 day release clause, so that if after a month he was proving his fitness and showing his undoubted ability, they could bring him back to help in the title race. However, many presumed this meant that Forest could also send him back. I personally had always been under the impression that the loaning club had power to terminate the loan contract whenever, but apparently not. In all fairness, the situation is understandable. If I were a Birmingham fan, I would not want Gary to come back for us to be paying his fairly large wages when he’s not going to be playing. So, it looks like he’s a Forest player for now. Hopefully, he can find a little bit of fitness, and fire us to a win against his old club, Coventry in the coming weeks.
There are definately some positives coming out of the scenario, Billy Davies has intimated his desire to keep Mcsheffrey at the club, and as a player who I once thought would break into the England ranks, I’d be delighted if that were the case. With Paul Anderson potentially set to leave at the end of the year, we’ll need all the width we can get, and Mcsheffrey would be perfect.
