Premiership Picks Of The Season

»» Opinion

So, skysports.com favourite pundit Kammy has produced his picks of the Premiership season, and there are few surprises. I however am fed up of the teams further down the league not getting the recognition they deserve, so I’ll endavour to produce an alternative set of picks of the year.

Team – My team of the season award is going to go to Everton. In the purest sense of the word, Everton fulfill everything that you could want in a team, they try and play nice football, but most importantly they have a genuine spirit, great work ethic, good young manager and some exciting talent, both foreign and home grown. Having played half the season without a single striker, no one deserves the award more than them.

Gaffer – Whilst Kammy plumps, unsurprisingly for Sir Alex Ferguson, I’m going to go for Tony Pulis.  My first choice would probably have been Moyes, but given my previous award I’m going to distribute more evenly. Pulis has done a fantastic job in keeping an average squad in the league. Beattie was an inspired signing, and Pulis has clearly created an us against them mentality with Stoke that helps them compete with better teams.

Player – Once again, Kammy goes for a top four star in Steven Gerrard, but I’d suggest that this has been a year of few massively outstanding performers. If this wasnt an alternative article I’d go for Frank Lampard, who I think has been an underrated performer this year, but In the spirit of the piece I’m going to suggest Kevin Davies. Bolton’s target man is always going to split opinion, but I think he fills his role fantastically. This year he’s filled Kevin Nolan’s captaincy role fantastically and even playing much of the time out of position on the right wing, and in frankly not a great team he has scored numerous goals and almost single handedly kept Bolton in the league.
Game – I just can’t see past Liverpool 4 Arsenal 4 for this one. I’ll have to accept Kammy’s superior judgement here. Simply fantastic entertainment.

Goal – Damien Duff’s own goal against Aston Villa final day of the season. Since this is supposed to be alternative I decided to plump not for the most spectacular, but the most unfortunate, yet important goal of the season. Duff’s horrible goal of the season consigned Alan Shearer’s Newcastle to the Championship and no goal can have had more impact on the season.
Gaffe – And so for Gaffe of the season. Without wanting to be over Newcastle orientated, Howard Webb (Englands finest referee) absolutely screwed over a team, obviously not purposefully, and had a massive impact on the course of a season.
