Forest on Film #5: ‘As long as the cameras show we’ve got the cup’
»» Forest on Film »» History
Yesterday was the anniversary of Peter Taylor’s departure from Nottingham Forest in 1982. This put me in mind to search out some video clips of him and I think this one illustrates why he was such an asset to the club and so valued as a friend and colleague by Brian Clough.
To set the scene, Liverpool are playing Forest at Old Trafford in the League Cup Final replay of 1978. Phil Thompson inflicts a professional foul on John O’Hare and Forest win the game when John Robertson tucks away the resulting penalty.
Except after the game Thompson admits he deliberately fouled O’Hare, but insists it was outside the area (like that makes it okay!?). Cue Taylor, with arm around Robbo, to put the record straight…
