Davies seeks away comforts
Billy Davies feels it’s just a matter of time before Forest win their first away game of the season, and it might come on their next away day……against bottom club Plymouth.
Forest have picked up a point in all four of their Coca Cola Championship matches away from the City Ground and on paper they look like decent draws for Davies’ men – at Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Reading.
Having fallen behind early at Portman Road, the Reds hit back in the second period and should have taken all three points after Robert Earnshaw equalised on the hour mark.
But Davies was happy with the performance and is not too concerned by the lack of wins on the road, which is now a nine-game run. The last away cheer in league for the Forest fans was a 1-0 win at Reading back in February.
Speaking after the Ipswich game, the manager said: “We want to win away from home and I will complain when we don’t perform but we have been performing.
“I am pleased that we have created enough chances to feel that we should have won at Sheffield Wednesday and QPR and again here.
He added: “Over time, we will become a more fluent, passing side. At the moment we are still a side that has not been together for long.”
But Davies has every right to feel upbeat – if Forest can continue to pick up points on their travels and stablise their home form, then the Championship betting odds show they should be closer the play-off zone than the drop zone in an unpredictable Championship.
Forest have a winable home game next against Blackpool before they face the long journey to Home Park on September 27, and six points from those two games will almost certainly lift them into the top half.
