Stan the Man auctions promotion shirt in memory of Forest fan
Stan Collymore increased his legendary status last night by auctioning the shirt he wore during Forest’s promotion season of 1993/94 in memory of a young Forest fan who died recently.
Seventeen-year-old Forest fanatic Blaine Thomas suffered a brain haemorrhage on 5 April, 2010 as he got ready for the Reds’ game against Cardiff City. He died the next day.
Stan made his gesture during an ‘Audience With’ event at Nottingham’s Approach bar last night.
During an auction of football memorabilia for brain injury charity Headway, Stan put his shirt from that memorable season, including the famous game at Peterborough where we clinched promotion, up for grabs.
It fetched £600 with the winning bid coming from local pub chain proprietor Dave Willans. Stan said the shirt had spent the last 15 years in a frame on his wall at home.
Comedian John Stiles donated a photograph signed by his father, World Cup-winner Nobby Stiles.
The auction capped a great night in which Stan regaled the crowd with tales of his exploits (including reading out Nottingham’s best ‘dogging’ sites from his iPhone and revealing what Kirsty Gallacher likes to do with Cadbury’s chocolate fingers). He ended the event leading a sing-along chorus of ‘You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling’.
There’s only one Stanley!

So a little bit sorry, although Stan was good value for an evening’s entertainment – topped off by his magnificent (and seemingly off-the-cuff) gesture of donating his promotion-winning shirt to an auction to raise money for Headway, in the memory of Blaine Thomas (more about this over at LTLF).
