Viv Anderson on the World Cup

Viv AndersonNottingham Forest legend Viv Anderson has recently become an official ambassador for the England 2018 World cup bid. Thanks to www.bt.com/2018, LTLF brings you an exclusive interview with one of football’s greatest pioneers.

What would it mean to you for England to host the 2018 World Cup?

I remember going to the England v Holland game for Euro 96 and as I left with the rest of supporters it was amazing. If we could replicate that for a World Cup that would a be a fantastic achievement.

What is your first World Cup memory?

Watching it in 1966. I came back from the park to watch it on television with my parents.

What is your best World Cup memory?

England winning the World Cup in 1966. The one standout memory I have was Nobby Stiles’ performance in midfield that day.

Who is your favourite World Cup player?

Pele won the tournament on his own in Sweden and in Mexico when the famous 1970s team was synonymous with the tournament.

What was your favourite World Cup team?

My favourite team were the Dutch side as they had the likes of Ruud Krol and Johan Cryuff – really flamboyant players

Which player will you be looking out for in South Africa?

Messi. The question is, can he do what his boss did in ‘86 to win the World Cup on his own?

Finally, what would be your best England team, of all time?

The 1966 team as they were the only ones who have won it!
