Forest Chronicles: A game of three sides

Nottingham Forest town crestDisappointment at the end of the 1967 season gives way to a new school for Gary, but more importantly a new season and a new experience – watching the Forest away…

Still in second place we beat Villa 3-0 and I thought it was our God-given right to score three goals at home games. Unfortunately Manchester United were winning their matches as well. We came down with a bump at Roker Park where we lost 1-0 to Sunderland in a midweek match. A draw at Arsenal and then it was semi-final day.

Video: Robbie Savage media own goal

Thanks to MrTomNFFC for sending us this clip of Robbie Savage tying himself up in knots on Radio Derby. Savage starts on the offensive over some admittedly slack journalism from his BBC colleague Colin Gibson, but quickly loses the upper ground, unable to explain Derby’s recent poor form – except to suggest that the fans better get used to results like losing 4-1 at home to Scunthorpe and the only way Nigel Clough could turn things around would be to replace his entire first 11.

We’ve heard rumours, Robbie, that you’re a bit of a twonk…

Cheer up Derby, it’s not the end of the world!

Breaking news: Kleenex supplies in Derbyshire have just run out.

“It’s a bigger outrage than when Diego Maradona punched the ball past Peter Shilton in 1986. It’s a bigger disgrace than when Zinedine Zidane butted Marco Materazzi three years ago,” fumes the Derby Telegraph on its tear-stained pages.

The strains of mournful violins can be heard across the city.

Forest fans, show us the artist in you!

Show us the artist in you!LTLF will shortly be launching a Forest Art section of the website, where our visitors can buy quality prints and original works of art relating to the mighty Reds. We already have some great work lined up, but if you’re an arty type with a passion for Forest we want to hear from you. We don’t mind if you’re a painter, sketch artist, sculptor, cartoonist or even a photographer, if you’ve created something you think other Forest fans might be interested in hanging on their walls then get in touch.

If we like what we see then you’ll get new exposure for your work and the chance to make some money from it. There’s also a possibility of your work being published in a forthcoming book (but we can’t say anything more about that right now).

Left Brian: October

“The month seems to have flown by, which means I guess it’s true what they say about time flying when you’re having fun – 16 points from a possible 18 is my idea of fun! Let’s face it, most of us would have settled for any kind of position this season so long as it was a) outside the relegation zone, and b) above Derby. But now we’re peeking over the fence into Play-Off Land and getting very tempted to sneak in.”

Forest on Film #7: Geordie pitch invasion

Nottingham is being swamped by Geordies this weekend and while many are looking forward to a lively atmosphere, some Forest fans still hold a grudge against Newcastle. If you’ve ever wondered why such bitterness exists between the two clubs, this video from 1974 might explain a few things.

Forest were looking set to go into the FA Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 lead at St James Park when home fans invaded the pitch, turning the course of the tie:
