Nottingham is being swamped by Geordies this weekend and while many are looking forward to a lively atmosphere, some Forest fans still hold a grudge against Newcastle. If you’ve ever wondered why such bitterness exists between the two clubs, this video from 1974 might explain a few things.
Forest were looking set to go into the FA Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 lead at St James Park when home fans invaded the pitch, turning the course of the tie:
Yesterday was the anniversary of Peter Taylor’s departure from Nottingham Forest in 1982. This put me in mind to search out some video clips of him and I think this one illustrates why he was such an asset to the club and so valued as a friend and colleague by Brian Clough.

This remarkable clip from Norwegian TV was posted on the LTLF Forum earlier today. Thankfully it has subtitles so you can follow the story of a pair of young lads who picked an English team at random in 1980, inspiring an entire housing estate to follow the Reds under Brian Clough.
The clip aired in 2003 with fans in Norway still following Forest’s televised games. It’s a fascinating insight into our overseas support and also contains some great archive footage.

With our first competitive game against the Sheep for three years looming, you probably won’t be surprised that I’ve chosen a classic encounter between the two teams for this week’s video.
Forest come from behind to win this gritty game in 1989 – the tackles will make you wince, the well-worked goals will make you proud, and watching Derby getting stuffed by the mighty Reds will make you hope for the same this Sunday…

“What do you mean, Who’s Johnny Metgod?” says Danny Baker in this great clip of the Dutch legend’s celebrated pile-driver freekick in 1986. “This is Johnny Metgod!”
The celebration after the goal is pretty famous too, having featured on the Match of the Day titles for some time afterwards.

As a journalist I spend much of time ‘researching’ on YouTube. And what better way to spend my employer’s time and money than looking at old Forest clips and sharing them with the readers of LTLF?
To start us off in the first of a regular series, here’s some old cine film footage of the City Ground in the late ’70s, before the building of the mordern Trent End, Executive Stand and Bridgford End stands. We also see Brian Clough parading the League Championship trophy.
