If I can’t have you, I don’t want nobody, baby..

Now that we won’t be hosting Peterborough United in round four of the Carling Cup, I thoroughly recommend you try and get to the Playhouse on Wednesday October 28th to catch Tim Minchin. Looking like a younger, ginger-haired brother of Robert Smith from The Cure, the Australian pianist/comedian’s material isn’t easily pigeon-holed; I’d say he’s a cross between Ricky Gervais, Eddie Izzard and Victoria Wood, as unlikely as that probably sounds. And howlingly funny.

You may be wondering why I’m telling you this. Bear with me. Don’t worry – I’m not a Posh fan trying to offload a couple of tickets so I can make it up to Blackburn. It’s just that I happened to see Minchin at last year’s Edinburgh Festival, and particularly recall a number in which he debunks the whole ‘soul-mate’ thing.

Forest In Search Of M & M’s?

Rumour has it that the latest potential signings heading toward the City Ground may be those of Gary Mcsheffrey and Matthew Mills of Birmingham City and Doncaster Rovers respectively. LTLF assesses the potential accuracy of said transfers and the effect they could have on a promising season for the Reds.

Billy has won me round with his winning ways

Forest are staying up. Just say that out loud. Three whole weeks since Reading’s Shane Long scored two headed goals to make it impossible for Norwich to catch us, it still feels good to know that the Reds have another season of Championship football to look forward to.

Moussi set to return – where have I heard that before?

Not for the first time this season, the Forest official website writes that our apparent ‘cult star’, Guy Moussi, is set to return in tonight’s Reserve game against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

LTLF takes over Left Brian

I’ve been moonlighting today and taken over from NFFC Blog as custodian of the Left Brian column on Nottingham culture website Left Lion. My first piece is about football fans and the internet, both good and bad aspects.

Davies Still Hopeful

Ahead of Nottingham Forest’s crunch tie with Bristol City tomorrow, Billy Davies has been talking to the Nottingham Forest official website, proclaiming to all that Forest still have fight in their belly, and hope in their heart.

The View From A Distance: Bad Eggs, Bad Omelettes

I’ve had to drop Lewis because of off-the-field indiscipline. I’m not going to go into it and it’s not just Lewis, there are a couple of players we must demand more of regarding their lifestyle.

- Billy Davies, 14/03/09

And so it all becomes clear. We don’t need a new set of full-backs, another striker or even a Premiership goalkeeper. We need Jamie Oliver on the catering staff.

Too much Clough could kill him

With the release of The Damned United forthcoming, it seems nobody can restrain themselves from jumping on the bandwagon. Soon our television schedules and newspaper supplements will be full to bursting with Cloughie. As we head towards Clough overload, I can’t help wondering if Brian has now become the Princess Diana of football folklore, guaranteed to bring in viewing figures and sell papers with each unearthing, but not guaranteed to actually tell us anything new.

7 points from 9…

…and things are looking up. Unfortunately, I cannot claim that I didn’t panic, along with so many others during our recent lean spell, but since I’m now one of the fickle many, I thought it only right to praise the lads now that everything is looking a little more rosy.

We’re s**t… and I’m sick of it

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing a hundred times, and always expecting a different outcome. So Nigel Doughty and me do have something in common after all.

Who is to Blame?

We all like to have someone to blame when the chips are down, and whilst I’ve no intention or desire to increase the so called ‘blame culture’ of modern Britain, one has to wonder what has gone wrong for Forest this season, most particularly in the recent weeks since our previous resurgent form.

Looking forward to the Damned United

The trailer for the Damned United has been released. The controversial Brian Clough biopic is due to reach cinemas at the end of March and I’m really looking forward to seeing it. For a start it has a great cast, including such reliable actors as Jim Broadbent and Timothy Spall, not to mention the excellent Michael Sheen, who I’ve admired for a long time, as the great man.

The Unsung Heroes

Followers of every football team in every nation have favourite players, players who create a spark, who if having a good personal performance can carry a team to three points. These players receive the adulation of the fans and the media for their work and on occasion rightly so, supporters often turn a blind eye to when these players have a bad day or when they are distinctly average. But some players are not so lucky. A bad day for some can lead to months of criticism; others can consistently perform at a high standard week in week out and receive no praise as their work goes unnoticed. This goes out to the unsung heroes of Nottingham Forest.

Mark Arthur – Hero or Villain?

As I’ve written here before, I’m not one to be reactive or cynical when the chips are down, but after another dismal transfer deadline day the strain is taking hold, and my optimism is being tested.

Deadline Day Looms

The sky is set to fall from above our heads, a charcoal cocophany of cloud makes its way towards us marking the end of this month of anxiety and excitement sandwiched by monotonous months of nothingness, as of 5pm tomorrow.

Ban the banning of the banners

Derby Super Rams FlagForest have banned fans (both Forest and Derby) from bringing banners to the City Ground for next Wednesday’s cup tie because it “could be inflammatory”. Yes, that’s what will be inflammatory. Not decades of bitter rivalry. Not two-way transfer traffic over the Notts-Derbyshire border in the last year. Not the most eagerly anticipated match on Trentside in recent memory. Oh no. A banner proclaiming support for one side or the other is bound to tip things over into anarchy.

The Ex Factor!

We can now add ol’ Colin Calderwood to the ex-manager list, as the hapless Scot is given his P45. Quite a miserable Christmas for poor old Colin I should imagine, but then he must’ve seen it coming – even if his demeanor in interviews did not seem to suggest it.

Life Without Calderwood

So after a growing feeling of unrest, and what was by all accounts a cataclysmically bad performance against Doncaster on Boxing Day, the curtain finally came down on Colin Calderwood’s tenure at Nottingham Forest.

His sacking by a remote Nigel Doughty, actioned by his puppet Mark Arthur comes at a tricky time. Any new manager will be thrust straight into the January transfer window with very little time to assess the squad – though the  fans in the stands can doubtless suggest many positions where a new face is required.

Added to that is the matter of a number of load deals that Colin Calderwood agreed which end on December 31st – Lee Camp being the most prominent on a sizeable list.

So what of Colin Calderwood?
