The
Watford Mission Report
01/03/03 | by Alex Walker
You
probably all know the feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning
and the horror of remembering that in the previous night's
drunken haze you agreed to do something utterly stupid. Well that
is how I felt when my mobile phone rang at 8:30am and I was
informed by Ingram that I was now part of the mission crew for
Watford.
I think the following photo shows just how bad I was feeling:

No matter how bad I was feeling, that cannot be anything compared
to the poor health messers Ingram, Caygill and Matty must have
been feeling when they got up at 5am (!) in order to get to the
City Ground and queue for Brighton tickets.
When they picked me up at about 9 O'Clock, however, they seemed
in good spirits...

That said, Caygill was rather tired, hence the cusion...

9am might seem like a rather early time to set off, but the
reason for this was that Ingram was due to represent Forest's
Internet Football Team (aka the Tricky Trees) - a team made up of
members of the unofficial Forest mailing list who regularly take
on fans from rival clubs' mailing lists and forums - at half past
11.
We arrived just in time and Ingram then showed of his alarmingly
small shorts, leaving us needing therapy for weeks!

Sadly, Forest lost the game by three goals to two against a well
organised Watford side.

During the game, myself, Caygill and Matty went off in search of
some food which took us on a misguided tour of the town of
Bushey...

After nearly half an hour of searching, we found the Frying Squad
- a greasy spoon fish 'n' chip shop where we lunched.

After the IFC game, we set off to Watford itself and spent an
hour or so in the Moon Under Water pub before getting into
Vicarage Road itself.

The game was reasonably entertaining. Forest were poor in the
first half, and thrilling in the second. Watford are a big,
strong side and all-too-often the Reds' defence gave them too
much time on the ball, allowing them to put dangerous crosses in,
eventually leading to the goal.
Up front we were lacking options with DJ out injured, and it was
only when Marlon and Huckerby went upfront as out-and-out
forwards in the second half (instead of Marlon dropping back onto
the right wing) that Forest started creating chances. Marlon
picked up a knock which seemed to slow him down, but he still
managed to battle his way through to open up the chance for
Huckerby to score...

Special mention should go to Andy Reid for a superb performance
which caused Ingram to not shut up about how good he was for the
whole journey home.

So it was mission acomplished and Forest had secured a credible
point away from home. The traffic getting out of Watford was
terrible and it took us nearly an hour to get back onto the
motorway, but from then on it was clean sailing with
Derby-Leicester on the radio.
