Arriving on a free transfer from Tranmere in the summer of 2000, Jones was Forest's only signing that close-season and his influence was minimal. Bought as a utility squad player, Jones helped fill in various positions during the injury hit 2000/01 season but failed in impress despite making a significant number of appearances. He left the club at the start of the 2002/03 season on a free transfer back to Tranmere Rovers after a succesful loan spell with his former club.
