Mathieu Louis-Jean

1998 - Defender 185 (9) games 3 goals

Mathieu Louis-Jean

Matthieu was signed during Forest's disastrous relegation season of 1998/99 by Dave Basset on a free from French side Le Harve and has since proved himself as one of the few players who came to the club in that period of any worth. He is also currently one of the Reds' longest serving players.

He is a strong right-back who has great pace and can attack well. He has recently also shown himself to be developing the defensive side of his game, something which had previously appeared weak.

He has held the position to himself under successive managers, benefiting under Paul Hart where he was deployed as a full-back allowing him to concentrate more of defending than under David Platt where he would be played as a wing-back. He looks set to keep hold of his place in the team under Joe Kinnear, despite the arrival of Any Impey.
