David Prutton
| 1999 - 2003 | Midfielder | 153 (2) games | 7 goals |

When
David Prutton was sold to Southampton in January 2003, many fans
were angry that the club had let one its most promising and
popular players go. There were even suggestions that the £2.5m
paid for his services was not a fair price. But financial
pressure had forced Forest to sell, added to reports that Prutton
had just rejected an extension to his contract, putting his
long-term future with the club in doubt.
During his time with Forest, Prutton's commitment to the club and
passion for the game had made him a fans' favourite. He was also
made understudy to Des Walker for the captain's role during the
2002/03 season and had often stated his love for the club,
something that was reflected in his all or nothing approach on
the pitch.
That is not to say that he was without skill. His passing and
ball control were good, and he was often the driving force of the
Forest midfield. Many tipped him for future sucess during his
time at Forest (he had already represented his country at Under
21 level and some thought he would one day play for the senior
side), so perhaps it was not a great surprise when he was sold,
but for many fans it was hard to take.
