O’Driscoll is OK with Forest fans

July 22, 2012

Sean O’Driscoll’s appointment as a manager on Thursday evening has been greeted with a universally positive reaction from the Forest blogging community.

The Through the Seasons Before Us blogger was quick to say he was ‘absolutely bloody delighted about it’, highlighting the contrast between Steve Cotterill’s ‘aimless long balls to Marlon Harewood and Marcus Tudgay’ and starting to ‘experiment with playing the ball on the floor’ that followed O’Driscoll’s arrival as first-team coach.

Seat Pitch say: ‘O’Driscoll’s appointment is important because not only does it provide some continuity with last season but it shows the new owners’ commitment to a sensible, long-term plan and football played “the Forest way”.’

James Bolton on View From The Main Stand describes it as a ‘terrific appointment’. He praises the style of his Doncaster Rovers side and ‘can’t wait to witness’ the same at the City Ground, but puts the focus of O’Driscoll’s task on rebuilding rather than chasing promotion this season.

Steve Wright, on his My Life in Football blog, was ‘absolutely chuffed’ by the news and the Al-Hasawi’s seeming intentions to ‘build solid structural foundations rather than rely on money to buy success’. He says the talk of hiring an ‘iconic’ manager was ‘nonsense’ and that instead we have ‘we have appointed a gem’.

Finally, the Pissing Red blog’s ‘official reaction’ is pretty straightforward, a simple ‘that’ll do nicely’.
